A Walmart shopper says a woman walked up to him and asked, “Can you pretend you came here with me?” He was busy with his own shopping and didn’t know at first why she wanted his help. The woman then raised her voice a little and stated, “There you go. I thought I lost you.”
According to The Daily Dot, the man shared the story in a video posted to TikTok. He says that was the moment he knew something was off, so he went along with it right away. Leaning close, the woman told him quietly, “Don’t leave me. Two men have been following me.”
He says he turned around and spotted two men close by. “One dude is standing at the end of the aisle. Another one is further behind him. No cart, no basket. And when we start moving, they start moving, too,” he recalled.
The pair goes to a store employee
The shopper asked her when it all started. By her account, one of the men first approached her in the store’s parking area and offered to help, and she turned him down. She later saw the same man inside the store. Soon after, a second man kept showing up near her, and that was when she went to the creator for help.
He says he took the situation seriously and went with her to look for a Walmart worker. Once the two men saw them talking to the employee, they disappeared, according to his account. When security showed up, he noted, she was shaking. She made it to her vehicle without trouble, he says. At the car, she apologized and told him why she had picked him out. “I’m sorry. I just looked at you and felt like you would help me,” she told him.
He told her there was nothing to be sorry about. In the last moments of the clip, he stated that he was happy to help, and happy she felt safe enough to come to him. If a scared stranger ever asks him to act like he knows them, he added, “I’m not ignoring that.” The outlet stated that it could not independently confirm what the creator described in the video.
Law enforcement and county safety guides offer advice for moments like this one. A sheriffs’ association page tells people who notice someone following them to head back into the store. It also suggests keeping a phone within reach in case a 911 call is needed. A Michigan county’s personal safety page recommends asking store staff or a guard to escort you to your vehicle when something feels wrong.
Walmart shoppers have also turned to video to share what happened inside stores, such as when a Kansas woman filmed a rollback sign.
