When you receive bronze, it unlocks the atgeir, a two-handed polearm, and swords. You’ve likely already leveled up your ax, mace, and spear skills by using other weapons.

When you break down all of the damage of the options, the bronze axe does the least amount. That makes sense because it’s more of a tool than a weapon. You don’t want to waste this weapon’s durability attempting to take down a random Greydwarf or use it against a Draugr. You want to use it against the trees in Valheim and use it to gather resources.

If you look directly at the numbers, the bronze atgeir does the most damage of the set. However, it’s a two-handed polearm, and that means you won’t be able to have the added defense of a shield in your right arm. When you use this weapon, you’ll be giving up that defensive aspect, so it can be a bit risky to use it. Just because you don’t have a shield, though, doesn’t mean you can’t still parry and attack with the atgeir. If you block at the right opportunity, you’ll be able to land a parry, and you can do three times your regular damage, and that’s better than the other weapons of doing twice as much.

For players who prefer to use a weapon and hold a shield in your other weapon, you may consider using the bronze spear, sword, or mace. Each of these weapons are optimal in certain aspects. For example, the mace does blunt damage, and that damage has a critical effect when used against skeletons, making it a super effective choice. Spears and bows, on the other hand, won’t do as much damage to skeletons, so you want to use a sword if you don’t have a mace.

The best bronze weapon you can use will be the sword or the atgeir. You want to use the sword if you prefer to use a shield in your off-hand. For those who prefer a more aggressive playstyle, the bronze atgeir is an excellent weapon. It comes with an even better special attack that sweeps around your character, damaging multiple enemies at once. We would recommend using a mace when investigating the Swamp to do more damage against skeletons, but the sword is a superior weapon in more encounters.
