The Fire Emblem series is all about building a big army to take on the looming threat of the world and Fire Emblem: Three Houses is no exception. Granted, the way to recruit said extra units are a bit different to what players have come to expect from the series over the past decade.

In Three Houses, you take on the role of a professor at a school for the leader’s of the future three kingdoms and, as such, your team revolves around the residents of the country you choose at the start of the game.

How to recruit additional units

In the beginning, you are limited to around eight students, and at first, there appears to be no option to add additional ones to your roster. Thankfully, though, there is a way to do it, and it all revolves around you stealing units from one of the other two houses in-game.

By walking around the Monastery during one of your weekend breaks, you have the chance to talk to students and faculty around you and ask them if they want to join your class, thus, adding them to your team for future missions and story elements permanently.

Don’t worry; it’s not as easy as it sounds, however. Your main character, aka, the protagonist, will need to have hit a high grade in certain stats for each one to join your team. Some might want you to excel in Brawler and strength stats, for example, forcing you to learn that stat through lectures and teachers in hopes of one day adding them to your team.

Some students, however, are just not recruitable if they play a pivotal part in the story. You couldn’t take Edelgard from the Black Eagles house, for example.

While this won’t result in any of them taking an active part in your story, it still allows you to acquire a unit type or build that would compliment the team that you wouldn’t have otherwise had.
