Spirit Energy is a vital resource to seek out and use in The Medium’s spirit realm. You need it for two abilities, so knowing where you can refill your Spirit Energy meter is important.
Whenever you are in the spirit world — whether that is with Marianne bridging both worlds or separately — you can refill your Spirit Energy meter by finding Spirit Wells. These are small wells on stone podiums that emit white light. Stand near the well and press the A button on your Xbox controller. Marianne will absorb the Spirit Energy until her meter is full. Marianne’s left arm will now have a white glow to it, which indicates that you are in possession of Spirit Energy. With this, you can use Marianne’s medium powers, which are Spirit Blast and Spirit Shield.
To use your Spirit Blast, press and hold down the right trigger button. Each Spirit Blast uses up half of your meter, so hold the trigger down until the bar is half empty. Let go of the trigger, and Marianne will release the energy in a powerful wave that helps you solve puzzles or fight off enemies.
For puzzles, you must emit a Spirit Blast to restart power generators that you see in the spirit realm, which will also restart them in the real world. For fighting off foes, Spirit Blast is the only defense you have against The Medium’s antagonist known as The Maw. If it catches you during an encounter, you can emit a Spirit Blast that causes it to dissapate and release you from its clutches. However, this only works if you have Spirit Energy available. If you don’t and you get caught, it’s game over.
To use your Spirit Shield, you press and hold down the right bumper button. This emits a light wall around Marianne, which allows her to move through moth swarms. These swarms can deal massive damage to you, so use the Spirit Shield to burn them away. It drains your meter more slowly than Spirit Blasts do, but ensure you have enough energy to make it through a swarm unscathed before tackling them.
