How To Choose Your Star Wars: Galactic Racer Vehicle For Every Tour

Your choice of Star Wars: Galactic Racer vehicle can directly affect your Galactic Tour experience, as each ride offers advantages, disadvantages, and preferred playstyles.

Your choice of Star Wars: Galactic Racer vehicle can determine how long you’ll last in the brutal Galactic League, especially when your rivals won’t hesitate to take you out at the slightest opportunity. While you start with the Landspeeder, you may eventually unlock the Speeder Bike and the Skim Speeder, and they all over distinct advantages and their own setbacks.

Since Galactic Racer is a racing roguelike, you can switch between vehicles whenever you do a run. But when you choose a vehicle, you’re stuck with it until you finish the Galactic Tour or unexpectedly end it, which means it has to be a ride you can work with. So how do you make that choice?

The Landspeeder is a starter car that lives up to the hype

The Landspeeder in Star Wars: Galactic Racer

If you’ve ever played a racing game, the Landspeeder will be a very familiar vehicle. Its dimensions and general “feel” can make your first Galactic Racer runs feel straight out of a racing title, and that’s by design. If you want to grasp the full mechanics before taking on a real challenge, the Landspeeder is a safe companion even in the later stages of the game.

Its Drift mechanic is also rather straightforward, and you can use it while the Afterburner and Ramjet is active. You won’t need a lot of Cornering for this one if you get the “feel” of the turns, especially when Drifitng. This extra firepower also turns the bulky Landspeeder into a weapon, since you can technically shunt enemies just by sliding sideways. It’s bulky and wide, which means it can’t take on small spaces and always needs the Ramjet or Afterburner to consistently build speed.

ProsCons
Bulky and tough, so it can last a bit longer and offer some resistance to active hazards like Burning and Corrosion
Great for plain steering, and proper turn timing means almost never relying too much on the brake and the drift
The Drift isn’t as dependent on points, so you can invest in something else like the Battery, Ramjet, or Afterburner
Well-timed Drift can keep more speed through a corner compared to other maneuvers
Bulky size means it doesn’t work well in cramped sections
Weight is more obvious when compared to the other vehicles
So-so acceleration, so it struggles in the plain speed game
Drifting can feel like sliding on ice, and it can get out of control
Reactive driving is usually punished, since you’re already at a wall by the time you turn too late

The Speeder Bike dominates once you get past the learning curve

The Speeder Bike in Star Wars: Galactic Racer

Of the three vehicles in the Galactic Racer experience, the Speeder Bike is perhaps the most contentious. It has the best acceleration in the game, which makes it the perfect partner for Surge Abilities and Surge-based builds. Even its unique maneuver, the Kinetic Burst, is a two-in-one brake and Surge. You barely need the actual brake on this one (except for hairpins), and just Kinetic Burst to take most corners, let go just as the nose points at the exit, and enjoy the speed boost.

Since the Speeder Bike is built for sheer speed, it has a definitive learning curve. It’s not built for natural turns without the Kinetic Burst, so timing is extremely important. But when you get past that speed “limit,” the Speeder Bike can be extremely flexible. With a good Redliner build, the Speeder Bike can outpace enemies and find them barely a threat.

ProsCons
Best acceleration in the game, which means you can get back in the race easily after a Crash
Thin profile makes it easy to traverse caves and cliff-edge shortcuts
Kinetic Burst can get you through almost any corner, especially when the Surge kicks in
Grazing a wall doesn’t always make you Crash, giving you some breathing room to learn tight corners in new maps
Top speed isn’t as consistent, so a simple crash can put the bike last and never recover afterwards
Lowest durability, which means you’ll likely get System Malfunctions more often
Weak steering unless you use Kinetic Burst
Weak cornering and prone to shunts along the middle of corners when it can’t compensate
Holding the Kinetic Burst too long sacrifices your speed gain for the sake of turning, and the Surge afterwards can’t always compensate

The Skim Speeder is the closest we get to a podracer

The Skim Speeder in Star Wars: Galactic Racer

If you’re itching for a podracer experience but don’t want to reminisce with Sebulba, then the Skim Speeder is the perfect substitute. It’s the widest vehicle of the three but still lighter than the Landspeeder, giving players that decent middle ground between speed without sacrificing maneuverability. Unfortunately, the Skim Speeder has lackluster acceleration and a lighter body, which means the wrong brushes can send you crashing. But when you use a Galactic Racer build geared for momentum, then the Skim Speeder can take you through most races.

Not to mention, its Knife’s Edge maneuver could be the best turning tool among the three options, especially when mastered. Right off the box, the Knife Edge is already easy to use and can help adjust to corners easily, it just doesn’t have the post-turn boost that the Speeder Bike enjoys after corners.

ProsCons
Easiest turning of the three, especially with Knife’s Edge activated
Reaches the highest top speed of the three vehicles more consistently
Turning is more precise despite the speed boost, making it more reliable than the Speeder Bike at times
Knife’s Edge can help keep speed even when doing tight corners
Knife’s Edge can help conquer most turns while Ramjetting
Widest body of the three vehicles, so no to shortcuts and small spaces
Slowest acceleration of the three vehicles, so building momentum is important
Easy to get bounced around by contact, making it more sensitive to touch-based Crashes
Tighter Perfect Start window, which usually points to a struggle to keep up on a failure

Frequently Asked Questions about Galactic Racer vehicle types

When can I change my Galactic Racer vehicle?

You can only change your Galactic Racer ride between runs or when you finish a Galactic Tour and are about to progress through the next stage.

Can I change my vehicle’s appearance in the middle of a Tour?

No, you can only change your vehicle’s design if you’re not actively in a Tour. This means you can change your vehicle’s appearance before you start a run, or after you complete a Galactic Tour.
