Anyone too deep in the realm of racing would say it’s the car that makes the race, but Star Wars: Galactic Racer begs to differ – the racer has just as much to do with the race as their ride. Or in this case, the Racer Style.
As players make progress with Shade throughout their Galactic Racer career, they will unlock a wide variety of Racer Styles, which are essentially “playstyles” that encourage a specific approach to races. They often come with a default Ability and a myriad of buffs that support their preferred strategy, making them an essential part of Galactic Racer gameplay. But which Galactic Racer Racer Style should players choose?
Tenacious
Get back stronger, use Autopilot for emergencies

When players finish four Galactic Tour Events (no need to win), they can unlock the Tenacious Racer Style. This encourages riskier plays as players are incentivized with the means to get out of sticky situations, courtesy of their 1 Extra Crash per race that is practically an extra leeway out of a Wreck Out. When upgraded, they get a much-needed Surge to get them back in the running after a Crash. At lower placements, getting Cooled to charge the Ramjet faster is practically handing players the keys for a comeback.
But where the Tenacious shines as a standout Racer Style is its Autopilot (Ability). When activated, the computer controls the player’s vehicle for a short while. This is “When in doubt, use Autopilot,” since the computer is pretty much equipped to handle any risky corners or unknown terrain – which is also a great way to study an unfamiliar track or a new map. If you’re trying to play Galactic Racer as a traditional racing title, this is certainly something worth checking out.
Unlock: Finish 4 Galactic Tour Events
Rank up bonuses:
- Bounce Back (Rank 2): Gain 15s Surging (more acceleration and speed) after resetting from a Crash
- Keep Your Cool (Rank 3): Gain Cooled (Ramjet charges faster and overheats much slower) while in 9th Place or lower
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Complete 8 Tour Events
- Rank 3: Finish 16 Tour Events
Survivor
Perfect for beginners, outlast the competition

Survivor is the first Racer Style players get, which they unlock after finishing the Prologue. This emphasizes protection and survival, courtesy of the Shield (Ability) that provides a nifty, well, shield that protects them from damage.
Considering the many things that can Wreck a vehicle, Survivor is the perfect Racer Style to use while players are still on their “training wheels,” so to speak. Turn on Shield when dealing with tricky corners or when enemies start getting close for comfort to boost your odds of survival. If you’re still trying to get a sense of how the game works or if it’s your first Galactic Racer run, then this Racer Style is perfect to settle into the game’s more nuanced mechanics.
Unlock: Finish the Prologue
Rank up bonuses:
- Mint Condition 2 (Rank 2): Get a speed boost as long as the vehicle doesn’t crash. Lost after 2 crashes instead of 1
- Power to Thrusters (Rank 3): Gain Surging (increase in speed and acceleration) when Shielded status is lost
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Use the Shield ability for 180 seconds
- Rank 3: Use the Shield ability for 360 seconds
Weaponized
Pure offense can win any race

One of the best Racer Styles in Galactic Racer is hidden behind its biggest objective, but it’s also worth getting ASAP. When you defeat Kestar Bool and become Galactic Champion, you get the Weaponized Racer Style – essentially making you a weapon of mass destruction in any race.
This is a purely offensive style that begins with Ion Bolt (Ability) that practically Disrupts the nearest enemy, and Energy Leech (Trait) that recovers 1 Energy when hitting two opponents with any Ability. When Weaponized is upgraded, you can even more access to AOE Abilities (Concussion Mine, Shockwave), giving you more chances to proc Energy Leech. And even if you abuse the Ramjet, you get Flame Vent that cools you down and, of course, annoys your enemies by Burning them if they’re nearby.
Unlock: Defeat Kestar Bool and become the Galactic League champion
Rank up bonuses:
- Tooled Up (Rank 2): Start with Concussion Mine (Ability) and Shockwave (Ability) that inflict different variations of an AOE stun
- Firestarter (Rank 3): Start with Flame Vent (Ability) that cools your vehicle (Vent) but also inflicts Burning and System Malfunction in an AOE
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Get 24 takedowns (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Get 48 takedowns (cumulative)
Tech Expert
Gain the advantage with perks, not speed

Galactic Racer players might forget that the high-stakes racing league they’ve just joined is extremely illegal, because not only are they allowed to use the rather volatile Ramjet, but also other tools in their arsenal if it means coming out on top. Tech Expert is the Racer Style that reflects this, as it greatly helps players who prefer collecting Abilities that can secure them the advantage throughout the Tour.
They start with Careful (Trait), which starts the Tour with Status Scrubber (Ability). Using this will remove debuffs from the vehicle, which in turn gives players 1 Energy. They also get the Concussion Mine (Ability), which drops a bomb that explodes when opponents get nearby. This is already a one-two-punch combo of a decent offense (Concussion Mine) and a quick comeback (Status Scrubber), which makes Tech Expert also an effective Racer Style in Multiplayer.
Unlock: Use Abilities 80 times (cumulative)
Rank up bonuses:
- Optimized Reserves (Rank 2): When you have 0 Energy, get 30s Overcharged (reduce Ability cooldowns)
- Adaptive Systems (Rank 3): Reduce reload time when you activate Abilities
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Use Abilities 20 times (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Use Abilities 40 times (cumulative)
Afterburner
Win with consistent speed, not clutch

When you play Galactic Racer you have access to two speed “boosts,” first is the more consistent Afterburner boost and the other is the more brutal Ramjet. If you don’t want to risk exploding on the spot by abusing the Ramjet, then the Afterburner is the more logical choice – and using it often enough unlocks the Afterburner Racer Style.
As the name suggests, it’s all about maintaining and improving the performance of your Afterburner throughout the race. Using this Style equips your vehicle with the Afterburner Fuel Tank (Trait) that increases your Afterburner duration, and then the Afterburner Superiority (Trait) that makes it even more powerful. If you’re looking for a consistent speed boost, this Racer Style is for you. And if you’re one to rely mostly on speed, upgrading the Racer Style rewards you even further as overtakes, airtime, and maneuvering recharge your Afterburner faster.
Unlock: Win 35 Events in the campaign (cumulative)
Rank up bonuses:
- Burn Bright (Rank 2): Each overtake earns 10% Afterburner charge
- Afterburnout (Rank 3): Doing airtime and maneuvering will slowly refill the Afterburner charge
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Win 8 Events (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Win 16 Events (cumulative)
Ramjet Rider
Get more use out of your Ramjet

In Galactic Racer gameplay where a game mode like Eliminator requires players to get ahead, the Ramjet is something that we want to use as early and as often as possible. With Ramjet Rider this is more plausible, especially now that the Racer Style has Optimal Heatsinks (Trait) that boosts the potency Cooled, essentially the status effect that reduces overheating while Ramjetting and decreases its cooldown.
This Racer Style takes this to the next level with Exhaust (Trait), which equips the Vent (Ability). This forcibly applies Cooled, which means players have an ace in the hole if they need that Ramjet in a crucial time.
Unlock: Use the Ramjet for 950 seconds (cumulative)
Rank up bonuses:
- Clean Air (Rank 2): When you take 1st Place, get 10s Cooled (Ramjet charges faster, gets overheated much more slowly)
- Clean Air 2 (Rank 3): When you take the podium position, get 10s Cooled
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Use the Ramjet for 460 seconds (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Use the Ramjet for 920 seconds (cumulative)
Redliner
Use Ramjet overheat to one’s advantage

Redliner is the ideal Racer Style for players who just love the thrill of using the Ramjet in their Galactic Racer gameplay. The boost provided by the Ramjet is no joke, especially since it’s difficult to maneuver in corners and overextending it can overheat and crash the vehicle. But with Redliner, players who abuse the Ramjet are rewarded with even more benefits, such as Critical Ramjet Power (Trait) that dramatically boosts Ramjet output as long as it’s redlined (kept in the red zone).
And players also get Early Warning (Trait), which extends the Redlining Zone by 100%. This practically allows players to stay Ramjetted up to twice as long (thrice, with the Rank Up). When used properly, they can crash enemies while Ramjetting or secure that clutch finish. Just don’t crash into a wall, though.
Rank up bonuses:
- Early Warning 2 (Rank 2): Extend the Redlining Zone by another 100%
- Safety Bypass (Rank 3): Use the Ramjet again within a short window after recently disengaging it
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Use the Ramjet for 460 seconds (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Use the Ramjet for 920 seconds (cumulative)
Engineer
Clear debuffs to focus on the race

As you progress further into the Galactic Tour (and at higher difficulties), the less about speed the races become. Rivals use their Abilities more often, and they’re well aware that debuffs can cost you the race. The Engineer Racer Style is built specifically to counteract this, as it has the Careful (Trait) that essentially gives you the nifty Status Scrubber (Ability) that removes debuffs.
Not only that, but it also gets What Doesn’t Kill You (Trait), which gives you Surging (boosted acceleration and speed) whenever you clear a System Malfunction. And with a fully upgraded Engineer Racer Style, recovering from a malfunction also resets all your systems, giving you a much-needed chance to come back from any setback.
Unlock: Use 100 Abilities (cumulative)
Rank up bonuses:
- Accelerated Recovery (Rank 2): Recover much faster from a System Malfunction and Critical Malfunction
- Good As New (Rank 3): When a System Malfunction clears, remove all debuffs, instantly refill the Afterburn tank, and reset Ramjet heat
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Use Abilities 20 times (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Use Abilities 40 times (cumulative)
Firebug
Short and sweet can still win the race

Among the more niche Racer Styles in Galactic Racer, it seems Firebug is among the most practical. Similar to Redliner, the Firebug does emphasize using the Ramjet. But this time around, you get into the thick of the heat quite literally. It comes with Heat Recycler (Trait), where your Afterburner and Ramjet get a massive boost as long as you’re Burning – the status effect where the Ramjet gets heat much faster. You don’t need environmental conditions to trigger this either, since Afterfire (Trait) gives you 5s Burning after engaging the Ramjet.
Of course, this comes with a massive setback. Firebug does give you a massive speed boost, but only for a short while before the Ramjet inevitably forces you to crash. That is, until you max this out and Burning practically doesn’t punish you anymore.
Unlock: Take down 48 other racers (cumulative)
Rank up bonuses:
- Firestarter (Rank 2): Start with Flame Vent (Ability) that extends the Vent (cools you down) to also inflict Burning and System Malfunction to vehicles in an AOE
- Unlimited Power (Rank 3): While Burning, get unlimited Afterburner and the Ramjet doesn’t get heat
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Do 24 takedowns (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Do 48 takedowns (cumulative)
Brawler
The takedown is more fun than the race

When Shade crashes their vehicle, they also see a live crash cam with free trash talk courtesy of the enemy who just passed them. This can get very infuriating, but then when you crash enemies, you also see their crash cam. And if seeing unholy ragdoll physics is your jam, the Brawler is the Racer Style for you.
Unlike other Racer Styles, the Brawler is straightforward. You get the Ion Bolt (Ability), which is a debuff that acts like an EMP and applies Disrupted to the closest opponent. This stuns their vehicle for a short while. Not only that, but with this Racer Style, a Takedown gives 1 Energy, making it much easier for you to spam this nifty attack. If you need the stun to get ahead, the Ion Bolt is already a blessing.
Unlock: Perform Takedowns on 20 other racers
Rank up bonuses:
- Combat Adrenaline (Rank 2): Get 10s Surging (faster speed and acceleration) you perform a Takedown
- Combat Adrenaline 2 (Rank 3): Get additional 10s Surging when you perform a Takedown
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Get 24 Takedowns
- Rank 3: Get 48 Takedowns
Clean Racer
Peace is its own reward

When Galactic Racer games get chaotic, sometimes it’s hard to stay out of fights. But if you prefer keeping your head down and focusing on finishing as soon as possible, then Clean Racer is a Racer Style you can try. This Racer Style prefers you stay out of trouble and just overtake enemies as often as you can. Victory Charge (Trait) is built to incentivize pacifist runs, as it gives 1 Energy for every five overtakes.
There’s also Overtaker (Trait) available by default, giving you access to the Overtaking Surge (Ability) that extends the duration of Surging after overtakes. Unlike other Racer Styles, Clean Racer is incredibly straightforward. Should you get behind at any point, Clean Racer can propel you to the finish much faster. But the lack of any “weapons” at your disposal does leave you vulnerable to aggressive players.
Unlock: Win 60 Galactic Tour events
Rank up bonuses:
- In The Zone (Rank 2): After 10s Surging, get a top speed boost. Lasts until Surging ends or upon System Malfunction
- Feel, Don’t Think (Rank 3): Gradually get more top speed while “In The Zone” is active
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Complete 8 tour events (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Complete 16 tour events (cumulative)
Stunt Runner
Race with even more style

With the right technique, you can propel your vehicle off ramps and other terrain to give your Galactic Racer vehicle that spotlight. And if you prefer your races sprinkled with a dash of pizzazz, then Stunt Runner is the ideal Racer Style for you. The Racer Style comes equipped with Repulsor Fuel Link (Trait), practically giving your Afterburner an instant refill when you pull off Perfect Landings and gives a +10% boost to its next use. It also comes with Center of Attention (Trait) that equips the Vectored Shockwave (Ability), which is a variant of the Shockwave (generates an AOE blast that disables vehicles) that propels your vehicle upwards as well.
Everything becomes more convenient for your sense of style as you rank up, as all landings get to be Perfect Landings, and spending time airborne gets you an even more potent Afterburner boost. And with Vectored Shockwave, it’s like having an instant Afterburner buff at your fingertips.
Unlock: Spend 240 seconds airborne (cumulative)
Rank up bonuses:
- Potential Energy (Rank 2): Get +10% Repulsor Fuel Link trait bonus per 1s airborne
- Repulsor Alignment (Rank 3): All landings are considered Perfect Landings
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Spend 25 seconds airborne (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Spend 50 seconds airborne (cumulative)
Slipstreamer
Use the competition to propel yourself to the finish

If you’ve ever played a racing game before, chances are you’ve heard of a slipstream. It’s a low-pressure area behind a fast object (in this case, a car) that can boost the acceleration of those behind it because there’s less wind resistance (the one in front takes most of it). Galactic Racer vehicles apply the same physics, and the Slipstreamer is the Racer Style of those who love just riding behind the coattails of the competition. If you use the Surge Ability (boosted acceleration) and overtake an opponent, the speed boost will last much longer.
And with this Racer Style, you start with Overtaker (Trait) that unlocks Overtaking Surge (Ability). This is a variant of Surge that adds yet another extension to the overtake speed boost duration. Not only that, you also get Stronger Slipstreaming (Trait), which boosts your acceleration when slipstreaming by default. As you upgrade this Racer Style, the slipstreaming area behind vehicles get larger and you get a much longer speed boost.
Unlock: Win 40 Galactic Tour Events (cumulative)
Rank up bonuses:
- Airflow Alignment (Rank 2): Keep yourself Slipstreaming even after leaving an opponent’s Slipstream Zone
- Optimized Profile (Rank 3): Vehicles have larger Slipstream Zones
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Win 8 Events (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Win 16 Events (cumulative)
Ice Cold
Being ice cold means never getting overheated

Among Galactic Racer tracks, those on ice planets are particularly annoying due to the Frozen debuff. Vehicles afflicted with Frozen are much harder to control, and if you’re not careful, this can temporarily immobilize your vehicle. But the Ice Cold Racer Style is built for this situation, specifically for the second effect of Frozen – your Ramjet has a bigger use room before getting overheated.
Ice Cold is an advanced Racer Style that capitalizes on proccing the Frozen status so you have more room to use the Afterburner and the Ramjet. It comes with Supercooled (Trait), giving you access to the Supercooled Vent (Ability) that speeds up Vent’s cooling process and disengages as soon as you get Frozen. It also gives you Absolute Zero (Trait), where Frozen means your Ramjet never gets heat – ergo, you have the speed boost of Ramjet as often as you want, as long as you maintain being Frozen and never crash.
Unlock: Use 160 Abilities (cumulative)
Rank up bonuses:
- Null Heat Signature (Rank 2): Gain 10s Shielded when Frozen
- Frozen (Rank 3): Frozen lasts twice as long
Rank up prerequisites:
- Rank 2: Use Abilities 20 times (cumulative)
- Rank 3: Use Abilities 40 times (cumulative)
And that’s a wrap for this quick rundown of all Galactic Racer playstyles. While the game actively encourages you to use a Racer Style that suits your preference, you might actually discover new strategies and racing approaches when you experiment with other Racer Styles. Who knows, you might just find the perfect Racer Style to bring to multiplayer as you experiment?
Frequently Asked Questions about Racer Styles
How do I upgrade my Racer Style in Galactic Racer?
Racer Styles are easy to upgrade in Galactic Racer. Just equip the Racer Style you want to improve and play through a couple of Tours. The further you get into a Tour, the more experience your Racer Style gets. It should take maybe 2-3 Tours to get a Racer Style fully upgraded.
When can I use new Racer Styles that I unlocked?
You can only switch a Racer Style before the start of a new Tour. When you begin a Tour, the Racer Style you picked becomes your default until you start another run, so choose wisely and choose the one you’re comfortable using across many Events.
