Play Skyrim: Special Edition for free on PC and Xbox One this weekend
If you're one of the last people on earth who still hasn't tried out The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you'll be pleased to know that it's up for grabs for free this weekend on PC and Xbox One. If the game just totally slipped your mind and you never circled back around to give it a try, all you need is Steam or your console to jump online and try out the game's Special Edition all weekend long.
Skyrim Special Edition comes packed with content, as if the base game weren't long enough as it is, including the base game, add-ons Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. If you're playing on PC, head to Steam and press the "install" button on the game page. If you want to nab it on Xbox One, be advised first that you will need an active Xbox Live Gold account to participate in the free weekend, which lasts from now all the way through 11:59 PM PDT on Sunday, April 15.
If you decide you do want to go ahead and purchase the game, it's 50% off on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, though on Xbox One it's only 50% off for those who subscribe to Xbox Live Gold. As usual, if you have a lot of fun during the free weekend and amass a decent amount of progress, you'll get to save that as well as your achievements to carry it over into the main game.
Despite the fact that the game has aged slightly, it's still seeing releases on new platforms, such as Nintendo Switch, oddly enough. It's still very much a title that people are still interested in playing, and for good reason -- it's as engrossing as ever.
