Gears of War is getting a fifth game in 2019 | E3 2018

Microsoft is extending another one of its most iconic franchises with Gears of War 5. The Xbox One exclusive follows Kait Diaz as shown in the new trailer that debuted during the Xbox showcase. The tale looks to be an adventure featuring retribution and revenge as its key players go through some pretty intense situations.

The tale looks to be an adventure featuring retribution and revenge as its key players go through some pretty intense situations. 

It looks like there will be a heaping helping of squad-based exploration and combat, with a smattering of cinematic scenes peppered throughout as it explores a tale of humanity’s flame finally being extinguished. 

Announced on June 10 at E3 2018 in Los Angeles, Gears of War 5 was confirmed by The Coalition and Microsoft Studios. Gears of War 4 kicked off following the original trilogy, bringing players 25 years after Gears of Wars, Gears of War 2, and Gears of War 3. The game puts players in charge of JD Fenix, original protagonist Marcus Fenix’s son.

Gears of War 5 is expected to launch in 2019.

So where goes Gears of War go from here? Judging from the E3 2018 trailer and information released during the Microsoft conference, the game will once again feature the Swarm—the brutal conflict could be growing larger than it has before.

Gears of War 4 was released in October 2016 after the franchise was acquired by Microsoft in 2014. Fortnite developer Epic Games once held the reigns of the Gears of War franchise, but Microsoft later assigned the titles to in-house studio The Coalition. Rod Fergusson, a former director of production at Epic Games, took over at The Coalition and has led development of Gears of War since.
