New Resident Evil 2 remake gameplay footage shows off gory highlights

Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake made a stunning debut during Sony’s E3 2018 presentation to positive reactions from fans and critics. We saw only a trailer with chunks of footage cobbled together during the reveal, but now Capcom has released a video with nearly six minutes of juicy footage of the game to pore over. It’s not as much as we would have wanted to see, but it’s a nice 4K look at some of Leon’s journey through the Raccoon City Police Department and a gory end for one particular officer.

The previous looks we’ve seen were murky at best, leaving players to seek out recorded footage from those who demoed the game during E3 2018. Now you can sift through the footage to find Easter eggs and other bits and pieces of information to help figure out even more about the upcoming remake.

This new title is far more than just a remake, though. It’s being rebuilt from the ground up, with plenty of new content and reasons for players new and old to explore Raccoon City again or for the first time. Recently, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirmed that it would be doing away with the “zapping system” from the original game and would instead be streamlining protagonists’ Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield campaigns in a new way with new surprises and content for each character.

There are going to be several differences, and plenty of ways for fans to jump into the series once more with a new set of challenges, surprises, and other goodies along the way. We don’t have much longer to wait until we can get our hands on it, either. Resident Evil 2 is targeting a debut on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Jan. 25, 2019. Get that zombie trusty handgun ready and keep some herbs handy. You’re going to need them.
