One of the core issues of the game, as BioWare itself admitted, is how the loot work (or better, how it does not work at all).
Knowing that the Canadian studio has tried and applied multiple solutions to fix it, without reaching to a satisfying compromise by the way.
One of the solutions was the introduction of Elysian Chests, rewards that are being offered to higher rank players completing Strongholds.
Anyway, BioWare has just announced that the next patch for Anthem, which will bring the game up to version 1.1.1, will be removing these boxes, without going deeper into explaining why this is happening.
The studio only said that “they’ve always been planned as a temporary thing since there was a timer under the challenges,” without adding the reason why they’re getting removed nor if the development team plans on introducing something else as a replacement.
The only thing we know as of now is that “there is a chance that they’ll come back again at some point,” so they could come back soon in case BioWare notices that loot isn’t as good as it is meant to be (and it isn’t, now).
It’s weird, and it happens very rarely that developers introduce features and then remove them along the way, especially when they’re supposed to have such a big impact on the endgame for online titles.
Hopefully, there’s something else in the works to make Strongholds as appealing as they should be, and we could be learning about that soon.
