Xbox “Feels Good” About The Amount Of Internal Studios

Over the last few months, it has almost become a habit to have Microsoft announcing new studios acquisitions at major events (it has happened at E3 2018, X018 and E3 2019), and execs like Phil Spencer have talked a lot about how they are still interesting in getting more first party developers in the future.

Over the last few months, Microsoft has habitually announced new studios acquisitions at significant events (it has happened at E3 2018, X018 and E3 2019). Microsoft executives like Phil Spencer have talked a lot about how they are still engaging in getting more first-party developers in the future.

In an interview with Twinfinite, Xbox Games Marketing Manager Aaron Greenberg discussed the matter. He confirmed Xbox Game Studios is open to further expanding sooner rather than later. He also detailed it feels good about the current amount of internal team, which is 15.

“There was a period of time in which we were very focused on adding more content to our first-party studios,” Greenberg said. “It’s been exciting, and it’s been great getting to know all these teams, going out and sitting down with Ninja Theory, or the team at Obsidian or inXile, and seeing the stuff that they’re working on now that people know about and the secret things they have in the works.”

As for the future, “you never know, but right now I think where we are, with our 15 internal studios, we feel really good about the amount of content we’re getting from that, whether it’s supporting Project Scarlett, or supporting Xbox Games Pass on PC and console. We feel like we have a healthy set of content across multiple genres, multiple game types, that will excite our fans.”

We can’t tell Greenberg is wrong about the way he feels. Microsoft has acquired so many studios over the last year it feels like it has much more variety and content, not only from existing properties. But there’s always something missing, like a Japanese team, as shared by Phil Spencer at E3.
