Walmart's Sonic the Hedgehog Halloween Costume Is the Stuff of Nightmares
Paramount Pictures made the decision a while back to delay the Sonic the Hedgehog movie until March 2020, to allow the special effects team to rebuild the character, so he’s more like his video game counterpart. But no one told Walmart. The chain just introduced a new Sonic costume that’s frighteningly close to the original movie design.
The costume has Halloween in mind, made for kids that want to “go fast,” similar to the gaming counterpart. But upon taking a closer look at it, we’re not sure if they’d be too thrilled with it.
The image comes from the TreasureHuntingSonic Instagram page, in which the user explains, “I found it! The Sonic Movie costume from @rubiescostumecompany! This is based on the pre-redesign Sonic, and only comes in boy’s sizes. I decided to use the mask and a couple of other Sonic items to recreate a certain meme. You can find this at Walmart for $19.97.”
The costume includes a full-body jumpsuit, along with a headpiece that features Sonic’s not-so-trademark ruffles on the back. And, um, the kid looks a little too happy in the photo.

This costume may not be a Walmart exclusive, as it’s likely to pop up in other stores as the march towards Halloween continues. But only a certain few are likely to get into this. Also, do they have red shoes to match? The costume doesn’t come with those.
Those waiting to see what Sonic’s final form is in theaters will find out in just a few months. In the meantime, don’t dress your kid like Sonic. Do what everyone else does and make them a troublesome goose instead.
