A few weeks ago we reported about a rumor that was spreading from an easter egg in The Division 2, revealed that Assassin’s Creed Kingdom is the next game in the franchise and will be set in Nordic realms.

Interestingly, the game has been in the middle of a brand new leak on 4chan, with a lot of details also involving the complete and supposedly official name for the game — Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok.

Based on this intel, which we can’t verify as of now, we learn that the title is expected to drop in 2020 as a cross-gen production for both Xbox One/PS4 and Xbox Scarlett/PS5, also released by the end of next year.

The main character is said to be an ally of Ragnar Lodbrok aiding in the formation of the Great Heathen Army. The map is reportedly split into several kingdoms spanning across Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

These kingdoms are said to be split into regions that can hold settlements, and settlements are reportedly going to have customization and in-game economy systems. Large scale “conquest” battles are reported to be returning as part of the story and will help weaken the hold of the enemy on the regions.

The first civilization lore is “a bit less than Odyssey,” but the player is said to be becoming an assassin and using the hidden blade at a certain point of the game. The title is also rumored to be featuring co-op, which can be used “in most side quests and world exploration,” and RPG mechanics, eagle, ship combat are reportedly all back, too.

The source also claims that the game is more focused on exploration so that question marks won’t be on the map and will leave the pleasure of discovery more in the hands of users. Builds and armors will also be the main focus, apparently, and outfits could be changed on the fly to better adapt to the enemy coming for you each time.

Finally, as for the development, we’re told that Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok is being made primarily at Ubisoft Montreal, with Ashraf Ismail (Assassin’s Creed Origins) back as creative director and Darby McDevvit as the narrative director. Sofia is said to be assisting mainly with the planning of a DLC set in Iceland and using Yggdrasil to move across the nine realms.

Well, this is all quite believable but could also be an elaborate hoax dropping after the Kotaku report a few weeks ago, taking advantage of it to look reliable. We’ll see in a few months at E3 whether this turns true or not.
