Mortal Kombat Reboot Movie Will Be Rated R

The screenwriter reveals that the Mortal Kombat reboot film will be rated R.

Back in May, it was reported that the Mortal Kombat reboot will be filmed in Adelaide, Australia. The film’s production is expected to be the largest in Australia’s history.

The reboot is being produced by James Wan, director of Saw and Aquaman, and is expected to be directed by first time director Simon McQuoid. The film has no release date, but it is going to be released by Warner Brothers Studios.

The original Mortal Kombat film is fondly remembered as one of the best video game based movies out there. Though very campy and cheap, the first Mortal Kombat movie is oddly charming and enduring in a weird way.

Even though many fans enjoy the first film for what it is, the main criticism towards the first movie is the fact that it was only PG-13. The Mortal Kombat video games were notoriously violent. Fatalities, which are violent moves that kill your opponents, were a hallmark of the franchise, yet Fatalities were mostly absent in the first film.

That apparently won’t be the case for the reboot, at least according to screenwriter Greg Russo. Russo posted a Tweet, writing that the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot will be R-rated, and it will include the franchise’s signature Fatalities.

This news will no doubt make many Mortal Kombat fans happy, as the upcoming film will be the first time that Fatalities will be appropriately shown off on the big screen.
