A 24-hour livestream of Pokémon Sword and Shield has been going on since 6:30 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The stream, for the most part, has been uneventful. The camera of the stream is locked onto one location, only showing viewers a mysterious forest area with giant, glowing mushrooms.

Throughout the stream, a mysterious horse Pokémon has been making sporadic appearances. Viewers only get a brief glimpse of the Pokémon, and it never entirely comes into view of the camera. There’s enough evidence to suggest that the horse Pokémon is a Galarian form of Ponyta.

Ponyta was one of the original 151 Pokémon from Red and Blue, the first games in the Pokémon series. Ponyta is a horse Pokémon that is covered with flames. Despite that, normal humans can still ride it, as Ash did in the anime.

A recent spotting of the mysterious horse Pokémon further supports the fact that it is Ponyta. Serebii was able to get a screenshot of this latest sighting, which we are using as our header image. The image from Serebii is blurred, but you can still tell the new Pokémon has the shape of a horse. Not only that, the mysterious Pokémon’s mane looks like Ponyta’s fire. In general, it looks very much like Ponyta, almost completely confirming it is the Galarian form of normal Ponyta.

There was also an earlier sighting of this mysterious Pokémon, showing it briefly glow. Most sightings of the Pokémon have it be in shadows, and it has diluted colors. However, in this earlier sighting, the horse Pokémon got startled and glowed with bright rainbow colors. This has led viewers to speculate that this potential Galarian Ponyta will be a fairy-type, since fairies are associated with femininity, and rainbows and bright colors are often stereotyped as being girly.

Not only that, Rapidash, the evolved form of Ponyta, has a horn on its forehead like a Unicorn. Unicorns are often associated with mythical powers similar to fairies, so the connection makes sense.

UPDATE: At around 11 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, we finally got a full view of the new Pokémon. It was shown casually walking, showing that it is an unicorn-based Pokémon. The Pokémon still looks very much like Ponyta, though it isn’t 100 percent confirmed if it is the Galarian form of Ponyta or not.

Serebii has provided a new image featuring this brand new Pokémon. This image from Serebii is what we used for the header image.
