Anyway, this doesn’t mean it won’t be having a focus sooner or later on the topic, or that streaming won’t be important in the way PS5 will reach its audience.
According to a newly discovered patent, that was registered five years ago and got accepted only now for some reason, Sony is indeed doing the proper work to have a streaming platform which could be as strong as Google Stadia in terms of games handled.
The patent clearly states that it is for a “system for combining recorded application state with application streaming interactive output,” which is indeed the same thing as Stadia and Microsoft’s Project xCloud.
It looks like such a platform would be tailored for making the service run games that consoles wouldn’t manage to run due to power constraints and limitations.
Of course, it is a bit early to say what could be going on or not, but sure enough, Sony could be interested into rebuilding its streaming offer to make it more appealing than a service only featuring PS3 and certain PS4 titles for the next generation.
