As we’re getting closer and closer to the next generation, every major event is a good occasion for platform owners to reveal their newest consoles.

PS5 was the first to get a proper acknowledgment of existence a few weeks ago when lead system architect Mark Cerny shared early details on the hardware.

With this happening, and with Sony not attending E3 2019 this June, it looked like a proper reveal could be planned for this year ahead of a 2020 launch.

While there’s still a chance for a late 2019 (PSX this December?) presentation, State of Play #2 scheduled for May 9 won’t offer any detail on the next-gen console.

Sony was quite clear about this topic, when announced the broadcast, saying that “one note: don’t expect any updates relating to our next-generation plans this time. Sorry!”

Of course, such a “note” is meant not to let people be disappointed at the end of the episode when they understand they won’t be getting their share of “next-generation plans” this soon, and also to prevent them from asking about it in the couple days of wait for the episode to be live.

Anyway, the next State of Play will be good enough without a PS5 presentation, as – from what we just learned – a long-awaited PS4 game could get a “re-reveal” in the ten-minute-long Nintendo Directesque broadcast.

On top of that, Sony has already announced that MediEvil will get a major focus throughout the episode and that a PlayStation 4 game from the Worldwide Studios will premiere.
