the developers from today’s Nintendo Direct that featured Pokemon Sword and Shield. People all over the internet are wondering who Pokemon Sword and Shield’s James Turner is.
James Turner is currently the Art Director of Pokemon Sword and Shield at Game Freak, and he introduced us to a lot of new Pokemon that will be inhabiting that Galar region. One fascinating fact about James is that he was the first Westerner to officially design a Pokemon, all the way back in 2010. He created seven Pokemon in Pokemon Black and White, two for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, two for Pokemon X and Y, and two for Pokemon Sun and Moon. The following Pokemon were all designed by Turner:

- Guzzlord
- Buzzwole
- Trevenant
- Phantump
- Mandibuzz
- Vullaby
- Golurk
- Golett
- Vanilluxe
- Vanillite
- Shadow Lugia
James was also director of the 2012 3DS game, HarmoKnight, and the 2015 game Tembo and the Badass Elephant. Before joining Game Freak, Turner spent eight years working at Genius Sonority. Nintendo and the Pokemon Company jointly own Genius Sonority.
James Turner was born in Lincoln, England, and attended the University of Wolverhampton, where he achieved a first class honors degree in Electronic Media BA. He spent a short time working as an animator for TV advertising before joining Blue 52 Ltd as a game developer. He joined Genius Sonority in 2002, before moving to Game Freak in 2010.
