How to get XL candy in Pokémon Go

Power up your Pokémon even further.

For players who want to push their Pokémon even further beyond their normal combat threshold in Pokémon Go, you need to use XL candy. It’s a new type of item trainers will have to work towards to level up their Pokémon once beyond the usual power levels of trainer level 40. We have an idea of how XL candy works, but what are the ways you can get it? Luckily, there are quite a few methods for trainers to use to work on it.

From what we can tell, these are all of the ways you’ll be able to gain XL candy for the specific Pokémon in the game.

  • Capturing Pokémon
  • Hatching Pokémon
  • Quest rewards
  • Loot items from the Battle League and rewards
  • Transferring Pokémon to Professor Willow
  • Transferring Pokémon to Pokémon HOME

The details also tied to XL candy is players will need to be a certain level before they can even earn them. So you don’t need to worry about how to get XL candy until you go past level 40.

From what we can tell, XL candy will work a lot like the current Pokémon candy system, but it’s a separate item that you need to worry about. When you want to use your XL candy to power up your Pokémon, you’re going to need to have enough in your inventory to use it, and we’re guessing you’ll also need enough Stardust.
