Star Wars Zero Company Permadeath Explained

Permadeath makes every battle more dangerous in Star Wars Zero Company. Here's how Injuries work and what happens when an Operator dies.

Permadeath is an optional setting in Star Wars Zero Company that makes losing Operators much more serious. Instead of simply recovering after being defeated in battle, Operators can accumulate Injuries that eventually result in permanent death. Here’s how Permadeath works in Star Wars Zero Company and what you need to know before enabling it.

How Does Permadeath Work in Star Wars Zero Company?

In Star Wars Zero Company, when an Operator’s Health reaches zero, they become Downed rather than immediately dying. A teammate can use Rally to bring them back into the fight, allowing them to continue taking actions during the mission. However, being Downed also gives that Operator an Injury.

With Permadeath enabled, an Operator who accumulates three Injuries is permanently killed and removed from your squad. This means getting someone back on their feet doesn’t completely undo the consequences of being Downed.

Injuries can also make Operators less effective when they return to combat (-10% Hit Chance per Injury level), so repeatedly putting the same character in danger can quickly become a problem.

Can You Turn Off Permadeath?

Yes, you can turn off Permadeath, but you need to decide before starting your Campaign. Once you’ve started a Campaign, you cannot change its Permadeath setting. If you want to play with a different Permadeath setting, you’ll need to start a new Campaign.

How to Heal Injuries and Prevent Operators From Dying

The easiest way to avoid permanent deaths in Star Wars Zero Company is to prevent Operators from being Downed in the first place. Pay attention to positioning and cover, and don’t leave injured characters exposed simply because they can still technically fight.

If someone does get Downed, Rally them as soon as it’s safe to do so. After returning to the Den, injured Operators can also be sent to the Medbay to recover. You can use Medical Beds to heal all Injuries on one Operator each Cycle per bed, or spend your Bacta Tank to instantly heal a single Operator’s Injuries.

You should also consider which Operators you bring into particularly difficult missions, since sending an already injured character into another dangerous encounter can put them closer to their third Injury.
