Pokemon Sword and Shield Rivals Bede and Marnie

There are two new rivals for players to worry about as they explore the new Galar region in Pokemon Sword and Shield

The new Pokemon Sword and Shield video released earlier this morning gave us a better look at some of the Pokemon and adventures in the Galar region. While on that adventure, you’re bound to run into new rivals equally passionate about their dreams. The two new competitors introduced in this video were Marnie and Bede.

The pair of new rivals are different from one another. They both serve as equal adversaries for you as you scour the Galar region. It’s great to see we’re going to have more to worry about than a single individual haunting our every step as we become the new champion of Galar.

The first is Marnie, a girl with a calm, calculated series of strategies that keep her level during a battle. We briefly see her in the trailer with the newest Pokemon, Morpeko, who can change from an electric and Dark-type Pokemon to an entirely Dark-type based on its ability. Given Marine’s choice of attire, the pairing is suitable. Marine already has a strong fan base due to her strategies in combat, so she may prove to be a worthy adversary during your journey through Galar.

The other rival is Bede, a posh individual with pride the size of a large mountain on his side. Bede received the endorsement of the chairman of the Galar Pokemon League, Rose, to proceed through the Gym challenge, much like yourself. The endorsement likely does nothing to relieve him of his bloated pride. So you’re probably going to hear him bragging about it every time the two of you jump into a battle. While the Gym challenge is his main goal, Bede is going to have alternative goals, as well, which hint to something more sinister happening later down the line.

These two rivals are going to serve as worthy fights as you make your way throughout the new Galar region in Pokemon Sword and Shield. It’s great to see players are going to have to worry about more than one thing on their journey than a single opponent.

We’re going to learn more about the game as time goes on. Expect to see more details as we get closer and closer to Pokemon Sword and Shield’s release date of Nov. 15 for the Nintendo Switch.
