How to earn 5 PokéCoins a day in Pokémon Go

A new update to PokéCoins is coming.

In Pokémon Go, the only way for players to earn PokéCoins in the game was for them to have a Pokémon hold up in a gym and defend it. After a day, they would be able to gain as much as 50 PokéCoins, but the amount would vary if the Pokémon stayed there for less time before being defeated by another trainer.

Developer Niantic is running a small test to change how players obtain PokéCoins. The first test is going to players who Australia, giving them access to new daily activities to earn PokéCoins.

The new change allows you to earn up to 5 PokéCoins per day without having to have a Pokémon in a gym. Instead, you can complete one of these new daily activities to receive them, similar to Research Tasks. Here are the various activities you can do to earn PokéCoins.

  • Make a Nice Throw
  • Make a Great Throw
  • Make an Excellent Throw
  • Catch a Pokémon
  • Transfer a Pokémon
  • Power Up a Pokémon
  • Evolve a Pokémon
  • Use a Berry to help catch a Pokémon
  • Take a snapshot of your buddy
  • Win a raid

You can complete any of these daily activities and expect to earn a PokéCoin from them. After you complete five of them, you won’t be able to earn more PokéCoins until the next day.

Because of this change to PokéCoins, all trainers can now obtain 55 PokéCoins a day. You can earn five of them from these activities, and the rest of the 50 can come from having your Pokémon remain at a gym for 24-hours.

The initial rollout for these changes will start in Australia, so not all trainers will have access to this new update. Once Niantic collects feedback and gauge reception from those trainers, we can expect everyone across the world to also receive these changes, and we can expect a handful of modifications.
