When it comes to the high-speed thrills of Star Wars: Galactic Racer, the Afterburner easily becomes your best friend. Aside from the regular accelerator, the Afterburner is the ever-reliable turbo. Keep it on long enough and you’ll steadily gain speed to gain the edge against your opponents, and it’s one of the best tools to get your corner drifts secured when done correctly.
Compared to the more volatile Ramjet, the Galactic Racer Afterburner is more consistent, so it’s natural for a lot of players to rely on it more instead of risking Crashes with the Ramjet. But you might be surprised that there are tips for using the Afterburner that you might not be immediately aware of:
Toggle Acceleration Mode for additional focus

If you’re a bit annoyed that you have to hold the Accelerate button and the Afterburner or the Ramjet separately, you can just toggle Acceleration Mode on in the Accessibility settings. This ensures that the game auto-accelerates on your behalf, and you just stop accelerating whenever you use the brake.
While not directly an Afterburner-heavy tip, this does ensure you focus on activating the Afterburner whenever it counts. And there’s barely any reason to not accelerate anyway. In moments of panic, you might be confused about which button you have to press first, especially on resets.
Avoid the Ramjet if you want to abuse the Afterburner

Mechanics-wise, using the Ramjet slows down the refill rate of your Afterburner tank. In most instances this is negligible, because the Ramjet does compensate by giving you that nifty burst of speed. But if your build relies heavily on the Afterburner, the Ramjet might just be slowing you down.
In those instances, just make sure you use the Ramjet only when it’s extremely necessary. Otherwise, make sure your Afterburner is on all the time as it helps maintains your top speed. In Galactic Racer multiplayer where no one is holding their punches, even the spare seconds of the Afterburner can make all the difference.
Get aggressive with takedowns

When you start gaining speed in Galactic Racer, other opponents will see you as Target Number One and start playing more aggressively in the hopes of getting you to crash. You can reward this audacity with a decent takedown. Just shove them into the wall or trigger your own Ability to punish them for trying to get touchy with your ride.
This actually works to your advantage, since takedowns refill the Afterburner instantly. We could probably see the imagery already – you shoving off an opponent and seeing them crash while you zoom past them. The Brawler Racer Style can reward you for capitalizing takedowns and knockouts, transforming your Afterburner into more of a weapon.
Try to master the drift, not just the brake

As with any other racing game, Galactic Racer controls do give you the option to use brakes. When push comes to shove, the brake is a nifty tool to ensure you can secure tricky corners and avoid crashes – even if it means braking a little too hard and letting a couple of rivals pass you. But that’s precisely the reason why you should start mastering drifts as well.
If you observe the tracks long enough, you might notice that there are actually instances where you “must” slow down in order to make the right turns without crashing. And in these instances, “slow down” could very well mean the lag time between the Ramjet and the Afterburner. If you practice enough, you’d know when to stop the Afterburner and use that “halt” (essentially a brake) to make a turn, then boost again.
Invest in Cornering as often as possible

When you start using your Galactic Racer Afterburner more often, you might realize that it’s just frustrating not being able to take on corners as reliably as you want. This is where the Cornering stat comes in. Whenever there’s an opportunity to get a permanent upgrade, prioritize Cornering as it ensures it’s always a bit easier to make turns throughout the Tour.
Doing this ensures you can allot the Tour’s own post-race upgrades to the Afterburner or the Ramjet, which will likely be your next choices anyway. Securing the upgrades to Cornering this early can make turns more convenient the next time you encounter them.
