In the Galaxy Far, Far Away of Star Wars: Galactic Racer, there’s no such thing as hitting the brakes. You’re either first, or you’re last, and the Ramjet is often the deciding factor. Compared to the Afterburner, the Galactic Racer Ramjet is the “super boost” – the nitrous, so to speak. You can only use it for a limited time since it has a set cooldown, and you can’t use it too much because it has the tendency to explode. Yes, explode. And with your pilot in the immediate vicinity.
Naturally, if you want to save your Crashes and avoid getting Wrecked Out of the Tour, you’d save your Ramjet for safe and wide tracks. But it’s not the only way to use the Ramjet. For the risk-loving Galactic Racer crowd, they’re actually gatekeeping some wicked techniques to turn the Ramjet into a beast you can control:
Get Auto-Deactivate Ramjet and learn from there

In a roguelike like Galactic Racer, every edge counts. And if your rivals can ram into you and force you to Crash, what’s a little settings tweak going to change? In this case, you can actually enable/disable Auto-Activate/Deactivate Ramjet, effectively giving the game jurisdiction over the super boost.
The more useful of the two settings would be Auto-Deactivate Ramjet, especially if your build doesn’t have access to any risky Ramjet tweaks yet. Knowing that the Ramjet ends exactly before the breaking point can make it a more reliable tool, especially in more brutal Galactic Racer multiplayer matches.
Get the Vent Ability proc’d during the Pre-Flight Check

When you use the Vent Ability in Galactic Racer, it essentially puts your vehicle on the Cooled status so your Ramjet gets breathing time (since it overheats). This makes your Ramjet cooldown faster and makes it slightly slower to overheat. But this is the effect of Vent during the race.
Before the race, if you finish your Pre-Flight Check, securing the Vent Ability lets you start with Ramjet turned on. If your build lets you capitalize on the Ramjet being turned on for longer, this can give you a decent starting point.
Learn the track so you know when to Ramjet

At the end of the day, Galactic Racer is still a racing game. So while its roguelike elements are punishing, your core edge versus your rivals is your potential for map familiarity. Once you learn the tracks, you’d more or less be aware of where the tricky turns are and where you’re more prone to crash. At some point you’d just breeze through them, especially during your future runs.
This means you can add a bit more risk to these situations – and that’s the perfect time to learn how to play those maps with the Ramjet turned on. It will definitely take time to adjust to conquering these turns with that extra juice. But when you get the “feel” of cornering with the Ramjet, you’re more or less good to go to conquer any other unfamiliar track.
Skip the redline so they come back faster

When you use the Ramjet, you can push the boost up until it reaches something called the redlining zone. Keep it there long enough, and you’d have a good chance of Crashing on the spot. This is precisely why some Galactic Racer Racer Styles like the Ramjet Rider, Firebug, or even Redliner enhance your speed so you at least get something out of that high-risk play.
But if your build doesn’t support that, just skip redlining entirely. Use your Ramjet as intended and stop it just before it goes into the redlining zone. This will help it recharge much faster.
Braking with the Ramjet keeps your boost up

When you start using the Ramjet, you know it’s either you boost as much as you can or go full stop – it’s either that, or you suffer a bad crash. But did you know you can actually hold the brakes with the Ramjet? This can help when you want to keep the Ramjet going, but you have to brace for tight corners or get into tricky spots. It’s still just as dangerous, but with enough control you can actually maintain that boost.
This tip is best used during Time Trials where you need to use your Ramjet to achieve a specific distance. Chances are there’s going to be a tricky corner or two to try and ruin your progress, so surprise the game with your newfound control over the brakes.
To drift or not to drift, that is the question

In speaking of brakes, you can also use the Galactic Racer Ramjet alongside the drift button. Again, drifting instead of braking-then-turning is a much more dangerous maneuver, but mastering the moment when to drift can make adjusting to most maps easier.
At first you might let go of the Ramjet to take on tight corners before using the Afterburner to regain speed, but this is highly inefficient. Instead, never let go of the Ramjet when you start using it. What you can do is learn when turns are best done by letting go of the Ramjet but not the drift, and vice versa.
Dance with the Afterburner

During your first few Galactic Racer Tours, you might have gotten used to the idea that you use the Afterburner as the standard boost, but the Ramjet is better if you want that massive boost. The misnomer here is that it’s either the Afterburner or the Ramjet, when in fact you should use them in tandem.
The Ramjet is such a powerful boost that you can practically secure leads when you use it at the end of the tunnel or right after a Perfect Landing. And when you run out of Ramjet, that’s when you use the Afterburner until the Ramjet is up. Doing this dance ensures you maintain your top speed. And the Ramjet recharges based on how fast you are, so the Afterburner is definitely the button to be holding when you’re done.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Galactic Racer Ramjet
What happens when your Ramjet overheats?
An overheating Ramjet can damage components, lock out your Afterburner, and leave debuffs that last for the rest of the tour.
Why should I not tap on the Ramjet?
Even one tap uses up the full Ramjet charge. So better to commit to the Ramjet instead of just tapping it, unless you really need to make a stop and make a turn.
