Where to find the Wendigo Colossus in Fallout 76

Where is it, and how does it spawn?

The Wastelanders update in Fallout 76 brought with it more than a new legendary vendor location, or a new array of weapons. It also brought with it a slumbering beast that no longer sleeps. Players are on the hunt for the Wendigo Colossus, a powerful enemy you can potentially encounter in the game. However, you need to do it in a particular manner and have it spawn by doing a specific series of tasks.

To have the Wendigo Colossus spawn, you need to nuke an assault random encounter location. There are four different types of random encounters that show up in the game, but we’re focused on assault for the Wendigo Colossus, and they include locations NPCs fight it out amongst one another. These areas include:

  • Center of Ash Heap
  • Dent & Sons Construction and Scenic Overlook
  • Bastion Park
  • All around Whitespring Resort
  • East of Spruce Knob and Huntersville
  • Cliffwatch
  • Top of the World
  • Northeast of the National Radio Research Center
  • Creekside Sundew Grove
  • North of Old Mold Quarry
  • KMAX Transmission
  • Braxson’s Quality Medical Supplies
  • Excelsior Model Home
  • North of Gnarled Shallows
  • Northwest of Bailey Family Cabin
  • North of Groves Family Cabin
  • Becker Farm
  • Graninger Farm
  • Slocum’s Joe
  • Marigold Pavillion
  • Vault-tec Agricultural Research Center

After you nuke it, more powerful enemies spawn in the area, and you can attempt to take them down. By fighting them, you can potentially walk away with far superior loot than you’d generally find in the world, but to have a nuke launch, you need to follow a series of steps. You need to complete the I An Become Death quest, obtain a Nuclear Keycard, and then acquire Nuke Launch codes. Once you have all of those, you can set off a nuke.

Of all the locations mentioned above, Reddit user u/Rynlnk discovered the best locations to nuke were these, at the smaller light blue locations on the map below:

  • Between Scenic Overlook and Dent & Sons Construction, to the west of Federal Disposal Field HZ-21
  • North of Monorail Elevator, to the south of The Freak Show and Devil’s Backbone

These are the optimal locations to potentially have a Wendigo Colossus spawn because you can hit the most assault spawn areas using a nuke. While these are optimal areas, as long as you hit a location capable of spawning assault random encounters, you should be able to have a Wendigo Colossus potentially spawn while exploring these nuked areas.

However, it’s not a guaranteed thing. You have a low, seven percent chance of them spawning at these locations. If they don’t show up, you want to try over and over to have one of them spawn. It can take a great deal of patience to have it spawn, and when it does, prepare for a fight. It will not be easy to take it down.
