White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has said in a recent press conference that the United States President Donald Trump will be meeting with the video games industry on the topic of violent video games after the Parkland shooting.

Curiously enough, ESA – the consortium of video games publishers and developers representing Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Electronic Arts, Activision, and many others in the US – responded with a note that it hasn’t received any formal invitation about the matter.

Donald Trump To Meet Video Game Industry

This is the note, as reported by Game Informer:

“ESA and our member companies have not received an invitation to meet with President Trump.

The same video games played in the US are played worldwide; however, the level of gun violence is exponentially higher in the US than in other countries. Numerous authorities have examined the scientific record and found there is no link between media content and real-life violence.

The US video game industry has a long history of partnering with parents and more than 20 years of rating video games through the Entertainment Software Rating Board. We take great steps to provide tools to help players and parents make informed entertainment decisions.”

Now it’s a matter of who the President will be talking to, perhaps individually, or who said such thing in public without even caring about taking an appointment first.

More sadly, it’s amazing how the administration is pointing at distorting reality – that NRA and weapons have the most of the responsibility for the violent acts every day in the United States – taking video games as a scapegoat.

Hopefully, ESA will have a chance to defend the medium, whenever it’ll have the opportunity to meet with the President
