Chris Avellone Claims Microsoft Should Fire Obsidian Management After Acquisition
We've known for a while that Chris Avellone, the Fallout New Vegas writer, hasn't had a good relationship with Obsidian Entertainment after he left the company.
Anyway, in a recent tweet, Avellone went even more vocal about his disappointmnt for the way the studio has been managed thus far.
In a direct public message to Xbox's Phil Spencer, he has claimed Microsoft should fire the management after the reported acquisition of the software house, in order not to waste the great potential of the developers.
"@XboxP3, if you ARE doing a deal with Obsidian Ent., I’d really, really look at Pillars of Eternity sales figures (which Fig has indirectly revealed this month, and tried to be cagey about it)," he said.
"Good devs there, terrible management – Hire the devs, fire the chaff at the top," he added, refering to PoE II Deadfire sales.
Obsidian has offered USGamer this comment about Avellone's statement:
"Chris is an amazing designer and we wish him the best in all of his future endeavors."
Indeed, Pillars of Eternity II has reportedly only managed to sell 110k copies since launch, which is a very bad result especially in wake of the original game's success.
From the looks of it, backers on Fig have not even managed to reach the break even so they could not recoup their investment for a while.
