The year is 2019, and a brutal battle plays out for the number one spot on Youtube. PewDiePie Vs T-Series has, somehow, become a major event on the internet. People are picking sides, throwing their support behind whichever of the channels appeals to them the most. But how did it all start? And who is winning?

Recent Developments

PewDiePie has had had quite the week recently! Not only did he marry Marzia, but he also hit 100,000,000 subs! The first person in the platforms history to hit such an incredibly high number. This means the race to 100 million is now over, although it had very much died down after PewDiePie suggested that people should just move on from the idea, as it was no longer fun.

PewDiePie Vs T-Series, Who Are They?

PewDiePie, real name Felix Kjellberg, is a Swedish Youtuber who has been considered the king of the platform for years now. Since August 2013 he has held the top spot, and up until recently there was a large gulf between him and any contender. He has a massively loyal following, and over 20 billion total views on his channel.

T-Series is an Indian music label and film production company. It runs a multi-channel network on Youtube, consisting of 29 channels in total, and a total combined subscriber count of over 100 million. The main T-Series channel that is challenging PewDiePie is, at the moment of writing, about 1400 subscribers behind. It is, however, the most view channel on Youtube, with over 63 billion views. Nobody seems to care too much about this, it is all about the number of subscribers in this particular show down.

The goal, for now, is to see who can reach 100 million subs first. I am sure this could change at any moment, there are no rules here, afterall.

Cultural Reach

This has become more than just an event between two Youtubers. Other Youtubers have joined in, with people like Markiplier, Jacksepticeye and Logan Paul all showing their support for PewDiePie. Meanwhile, T-Series has received support from Youtubers like Jus Reign and Tatva K.

There have also been rallies held in support of PewDiePie, hackers have made vulnerable printers spit out posters in support of the Swedish star, and even some highly questionable activities like DDOS attacks. Even the Wall Street Journal’s website was hacked, as they are perceived as being against PewDiePie due to some unflattering reporting around the Youtuber’s antics. The battle is also getting more and more coverage in mainstream media.

How PewDiePie Vs T-Series Started

It would seem this this all started due to PewDiePie. As the T-Series channel was growing, he noticed that he might lose his spot at the top of Youtuber, so made a video appealing to his fans to keep him there. That was over 50 million subscribers ago, and what started as a bit of fun, even if it has been tinged by poor behaviour at times, appears to have been fantastic for both channels in terms of growth.
