Sony’s Store has indeed let slip the official pre-order page for the title, which reveals that the pre-order will come, as usual, with a series of bonus items you’ll be able to use throughout the game. Of course, pre-order opening so soon hints at a 2019 release date at least.
As we’ve already shared, the pre-order items will feature Gold “Sam” Sunglasses, Gold Armor Plate, Gold Hat and Gold Speed Skeleton. These items, says the page, are going to be unlocked via story progression, so you won’t have them available at the start of the game. On top of that, Kojima Productions is also granting you access to some items you’ll get a chance to customize your console and PSN ID with: we’re talking about Chibi Ludens as PlayStation Network avatar, and a PlayStation 4 dynamic theme inspired by the game.
Thanks to the pre-order page we also learn something more about the story, as the plot synopsis has also been shared as part of it. These details confirm that ‘Death Stranding’ is the name of the phenomenon that has turned the game’s world into a post apocalyptic-like one.
The story details also point at the cooperation theme that has always been discussed as a core part of the gameplay mechanics in Death Stranding, since players will be required to “embark on a journey to reunite the shattered world one step at a time.” Whether we’ll do this all alone or cooperating with other players, that’s something we’ll discover soon.
