So the rumors were true, and Death Stranding will release on November 8 this year. This also sheds some light on why The Last of Us II appears to have been pushed back to a 2020 release. Death Stranding is also now up for pre-order on the PlayStation Store, with four different editions available. You can choose from the Standard Edition, Special Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, and the Collector’s Edition.

The release date was confirmed in the above trailer, posted today on the Playstation Youtube channel. The trailers run for over 8 minutes, and while it hints at plenty of interesting of the upcoming game, it is also confusing, as all Kojima games tend to be.

Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.

I want to watch the trailer a few more times before I make any predictions about the game, but it looks visually stunning. We finally get some answers about what exactly the babies are about, as they seem to act as a key that allows people to interact with another world. I imagine after a couple of more watches of the trailer I am going to have more questions than answers, but the game seems to be far removed from the walking simulator that some people were predicting.
