One of the things we’ve appreciated a lot in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the fact you can have multiple endings. By the way, those are not being prompted thanks to a morality system but only through gameplay choices, and the same will happen with the next game from CD Projekt RED, Cyberpunk 2077.
One of the things features in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the fact players can have multiple endings. Cyberpunk 2077 is going to feature multiple endings as well, though players find them based on the game’s morality system they acquire based on their gameplay choices.
“We don’t have a moral system per se,” quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz said. “However, to complete it non-lethally, you have to be very good at stealth. Invest in points that allow you to stealth better, use weapons that will allow you to incapacitate the enemy instead of killing them, to make the moral choices that will allow you to avoid killing people throughout the game.”
It looks like stealth replaces the typical moral choices a player encounters through combat. By a player choosing not to kill anyone, it could lead to one of the different endings. Naturally, player choices and decisions during narrative scenes are likely going to factor in as well.
Of course, it’ll be tough to complete the game without killing anyone or by merely going a stealth path. Players are expected to face intricate quests and fight extremely armed foes. The temptation to use weapons and immediately kill an opponent is always going to remain.
Augmentations are also a part of the gameplay mechanics. There’s a chance that – let alone the few ones that will be mandatory, such as those activating your HUD – the less you grab, the more significant opportunities you’ll have to meet a different ending. The augmentation theory is pure speculation.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases on April 16, 2020, and there’s a chance the title is coming with a new game plus mode on day one.
