The Halo Reach Xbox One flight has been delayed without a precise release date being attached to it because of memory issues found on the console. The main problem is apparently linked to the new progression system, which will have to make use of the Unreal Engine 4 on top of the existing engines.
The Halo Reach Xbox One beta is delayed, with no follow-up release date. The reason 343 Industries is delaying the game is due to memory issues on the Xbox One. The main problem is with the new progression system, which uses the Unreal Engine 4 on top of the existing engines.
343 Industries explained the situation from a blog post.
“As has been stated previously, making any game is hard, let alone where you’re dealing with 11 game engines and seven complete games under the roof of one title sharing the same hardware resources,” said 343 Industries. “One key goal that has been a part of bringing Halo: Reach into MCC is that for Xbox One, the team has been attempting to bring UE4 online for new character customization options on Xbox,” further reads the post, as shared on ResetEra.
“This, however, has proved to be quite challenging as MCC was already close to memory limits running on the original Xbox One consoles,” 343 Industries wrote. “Bringing the entire progression and customization system into MCC also requires memory to be used to run the additional UE4 engine.”
With such memory issues, 343 Industries can’t predict whether the game is going to be stable at launch. They can’t afford that issue on a console that deals with crashes all across its platform.
With this in mind, the team decided that focused on figuring out the problems to ensure those who willingly test the game do not encounter these issues. At this stage, though, we don’t know how much time it’ll take before those issues get fixed.
A Halo Reach PC flight has already occurred after several delays, and more are on the way.
