Rockstar Games Owner Aims For Graphics Indistinguishable From Reality On PS5 And Scarlett
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has shared his excitement for the incoming next generation of consoles, hinting at what is the target in terms of visual fidelity the label, which owns Rockstar Games and Visual Concepts, is aiming for on PS5 and Project Scarlett.
"We have a new console generation coming, and that's going to allow us to do some things that we haven't been able to do before creatively, and that's exciting," Zelnick said, alluding to all the things that the additional power granted by the new systems is going to make possible.
"We're going to reach a point where you won't be able to tell the difference between what's created in the computer and what's real," he added, via GameSpot. Since the next GTA is most likely releasing only on next-gen consoles, it's interesting that the company has such an ambitious target.
"But this promise of taking certain titles like basketball, and making it truly look live-action--it's pretty close now, squint a little bit and it looks like live-action--that's really exciting," Zelnick said. "And that gives our creative folks a new canvas on which to paint."
The topic at hand here is whether we'll get reach a point where we won't be able to tell what's a video game and what, for example, an NBA match or a TV show. While I don't think this will happen on PS5 and Project Scarlett, those platforms are enabling new tech such as ray tracing that will make the gap between games and reality much smaller.
