The Crash Bandicoot franchise has had something of a revival in recent years. The first three games were remade in the N. Sane Trilogy in 2017, before Crash Team Racing was also remade as Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled earlier this year. Now, a number of rumors, originally compiled by GamesRadar+, are starting to mount about a completely new Crash Bandicoot game that may be coming next year.

It all began when Sony put out a new commercial for the PlayStation 4 earlier this month, which includes a number of characters from recent or upcoming PS4 games interacting with people in the real world. Some of those characters include Crash himself, his sister Coco, and his nemesis Neo Cortex, all kart racing. The interesting thing is that while Crash is being followed by Aku Aku, his mask companion since the first game in the franchise, Coco is seen being followed by a new mask that hasn’t appeared in past games. Nicholas Kole, an artist who worked for Toys For Bob on the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, was quick to acknowledge the new mask in the trailer.

Next, fans starting noticing some new advertisements on buses in the U.K., which seemed to feature a new render of Crash that hadn’t been used in previous games. Finally, a 4chan user who claims to have insider knowledge put it all together. The 4chan post they made claims that the reason for the new Crash render on the bus advertisements and the new mask in the PS4 commercial is because there is a new Crash Bandicoot game in the works.

The post states that the game will be called Crash Bandicoot Worlds and will be released in 2020. Furthermore, the post says that the game is being developed by Toys For Bob and Vicarious Visions, the studio that made the N. Sane Trilogy. The game will supposedly be a semi-open world game akin to Super Mario 3D World and will feature new masks and enemies. Lastly, the post claims that the game will be announced in December this year.

It’s worth noting that Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled was announced last year in December, during The Game Awards, so there is precedent. However, leaks are often unreliable, so it’s best to take this information with a huge grain of salt until official confirmation is made by Activision, who owns the Crash Bandicoot license.
