January 23rd is the launch date for The Hidden Ones, the first DLC for Assassin’s Creed: Origins that takes you back to Egypt as Bayek. A new map area, occupied by Romans, new gear, weapons, armor, and challenges, all await the player. The level cap is also raised and there’s more to come later this spring.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins will see the launch of its first DLC, The Hidden Ones, this Tuesday, January 23rd. This marks the first expansion for a game that we reviewed very favorably, and will offer quite a bit of new content for the game’s campaign. If you thought Bayek’s story was over, think again.

The Hidden Ones

Bayek’s story continues in The Hidden Ones as he takes over control of the very first assassin’s order and heads to a new area of the map, the Sinai. It is now four years after the events of the main campaign and the Romans have occupied this area, causing all kinds of grief for the Egyptians. A new quest, Incoming Threat, free to all players, will set the stage for what Bayek and his Hidden Ones plan to do about the situation.

Along with the new area, new story missions, and new gear to find, the level cap will be raised from 40 to 45. This should provide plenty of room for growth as we all head back to the sands and take on the new challenges. Bayek will be able to acquire some new gear, including four new legendary weapons. Two new crafting levels are available for those gamers that prefer to make their own killing devices. The DLC will run in parallel to the main campaign, so you’ll be able to take some of this new powerful gear with you to clean up any of the original story’s leftovers.

For those gamers that are looking for less conflict in Ancient Egypt, the Discovery Tour DLC will be released on February 20th. This is a completely non-confrontational version of the game with an educational twist. Players will be able to free-roam Egypt without the threat of violence, or partake in guided tours curated by Egyptologists and historians. The expansion will be free to all current Assassin’s Creed: Origins owners and also be available for $19.99 as a standalone purchase.

On March 6th, the story of Bayek will continue in the second expansion, The Curse of the Pharaohs, which will once again raise the level cap and provide new challenges and content. It’s included in the season pass, or available for individual purchase.

Personally, I can’t wait to get sand in my shoes again and get back to assassinating those pesky Romans! If you need to prepare yourself, head over to our Assassin’s Creed: Origins Guide Hub for lots of advice on how to get ready.
