In a newest interview with Game Informer, Treyarch has revealed why the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is not featuring a story mode or traditional single-player campaign where it releases this October.

Co-studio heads Dan Bunting and David Vonderhaar have shared more information about the reasons why the game’s including exclusively multiplayer modes, claiming that the studio has developed a culture of adapting throughout the development of each game.

“Development is a journey. We try a lot of different ideas and a lot of different things. The game that we are making has evolved over time, and that’s just a part of development,” co studio head Dan Bunting said (via GameSpot).

“I can’t remember a single game that we’ve made that hasn’t had a dramatic change in the prototyping stage. That’s what prototyping is for. You prototype ideas; some of them work out great, some of them don’t work out great and you pivot. You find a new idea [and] focus on that. We follow the fun.”

So, it gets clearer that the game was supposed to be featuring a story mode at the inception of the project, but that because of reasons of time and resources it was decided to cut it out.

Anyway, the developer has added that “It wasn’t a campaign as people usually refer to it anyways. How can you say what happened to this thing that wasn’t. It was a multiplayer game.”

Do you feel there’s something missing in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for this reason, or is it ok like this?
