Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s reveal was lacking a battle royale mode, which we thought could’ve been a hint at that mode being left for Black Ops as a selling point of that specific subseries. However, things are a bit different it seems.
Based on the latest rumors, indeed, Infinity Ward is indeed working on a battle royale mode for its game, even though it has not been revealed yet, and is still in the making; it’s planned for the launch date of October 25, 2019, we learn, but could be delayed for a post launch update.
The mode is rumored to be based on a map 3 times bigger than Blackout‘s and would allow to have 200 players instead of the current gold standard of 100; current tests would have 152 users. The map would be featuring “many close quarter and open areas,” and would have a poisonous gas as a closing ring.
The mode would be coming with cash system areas, supply drops, players deploying out of an AC-130, elements from previous Modern Warfare games, and weapons based on ranks. On top of that, there would be a revive system similarly to what happens in Apex Legends (and later on Fortnite).
“Infinity Ward has taken all the different co-op missions in the game and mixed them all together,” also says the rumor, which leads us to believe this mode could be very close to Apex Legends in the way it focuses on squad based gameplay instead of solo.
A gameplay reveal is expected to happen soon for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, so we could hear more about this battle royale mode at that time.
