Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has controversially done away with any single player campaign, a first for the series that stunned many fans. If a new job listing from Infinity Ward is any indication, this trend isn’t meant to last.
A job posting from series creators Infinity Ward is seeking a narrative scripted for a “next-gen” game, according to Charlie Intel and IGN, with successful candidates required to possess an understanding of both single-player and multiplayer design. There’s a caveat that any applicant needs to have experience telling stories within the gaming medium too.Â
This listing is hardly confirmation that a new single-player campaign is en route for the next game, but a pizzeria doesn’t hire a delivery guy unless they plan to offer delivery. Given that Black Ops 4 does have a few smaller single-player missions meant to be completed as the game’s various Specialists, the following game could feature a similar setup. The listing notes that the upcoming game will be for “multiple next-gen platforms,” so whatever the plans are it might be some time before we learn about it.
We’ll be waiting around to see what Infinity Ward decides to go with, but in the meantime you can check out Black Ops 4 when it launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Oct. 12, 2018. It will feature a brand new Battle Royale game mode (of course), so it could get pretty wild.
