Demos for the upcoming Nintendo Switch and 3DS ports of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker are available today, so you can take Toad on a new adventure every time you leave your house. The puzzle game originally debuted on Wii U back in 2014, tasking players with controlling Captain Toad as he works to uncover gems, stars, and other goodies in various puzzle stages.

Captain Toad was a well-received puzzler when it first hit the Wii U, combining intriguing puzzlers with an underutilized character from the Mario series. It’s also challenging, because Toad himself can’t jump or use any special abilities like the rest of the Mario crew can, so you’re utterly powerless against enemies. What you can do, however, is twist the camera around to find secrets and hidden pathways you can use to keep Toad safe from harm.

In fact, you pretty much have to move the camera around if you want to make any progress. You’ll have to zoom in and out and flip the environment around, using the touch pad to to stun enemies and peform other contextual actions. The microphone is also required for certain sections, which is quite surprising. In addition, minecart segments offer a riff on the regular puzzles with first-person presentation.

If you like what you see during your travels with Toad, the games can be purchased on July 13 when they make their full debut. It looks like we’re going to see the same type of functionality with both versions, but our money is on the Switch iteration being the best one to opt for.
