Chucklefish’s WarGroove and WitchBrook are on the way, but the indie game publisher has just unveiled a third title. Eastward, a quirky adventure RPG developed by Shanghai studio Pixpil, was announced today along with its official teaser trailer.

Eastward is a “dual character adventure RPG” filled with “puzzle-solving” and “dungeon elements,” according to the game’s official site. The title focuses on a digger named John and a mysterious young girl named Sam, who John finds in an underground facility. The two live in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been ravaged by mysterious creatures, and the game will introduce players to a “quirky cast of characters” across “distant cities” as John and Sam explore the world beyond John’s small town.

Eastward has a beautiful pixel aesthetic to boot, and the game was partly inspired by its developers’ love for The Legend of Zelda and Nintendo’s Mother series, along with classic Japanese animation, according to the game’s official press kit. Given the upcoming game’s focus on bizarre circumstances and larger-than-life non-playable characters, EarthBound feels like an apt comparison for Eastward. Check out the title’s trailer below.

Eastward is currently being developed for PC and Mac, with console platforms “unconfirmed, but very possible,” according to the game’s official FAQ. No release date has been given for the game quite yet.

Meanwhile, Chucklefish’s WarGroove is set for the second half of 2018, and the publisher’s hit title Stardew Valley may receive multiplayer support as soon as next month. The future certainly looks promising for Chucklefish, even if fans still have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the studio’s upcoming games and updates.
