Kojima Productions’ new game Death Stranding is on the way, and two years after its initial debut, the title just received its first gameplay trailer and story details.

Unveiled during Sony’s E3 2018 press conference, the trailer depicted main character Sam Porter Bridges exploring through strange and beautiful landscapes. Death Stranding’s latest trailer unveiled Sam’s family, as well as the impact that an invisible and dangerous creature leaves on time when it comes into contact with other people and objects. Lindsay Wagner and Léa Seydoux also feature in the trailer, expanding the game’s cast.

Known originally for his critically-acclaimed series Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima left Konami in 2015 and recreated Kojima Productions shortly after. His fans celebrated Death Stranding’s announcement and eagerly awaited more information on the game, which features both immersive storytelling and somewhat cryptic gameplay features. The title is a PlayStation 4 exclusive and is being developed through a partnership with Sony.

Death Stranding was announced at E3 2016 with a trailer depicting Norman Reedus as the game’s protagonist, Sam Porter Bridges. Death Stranding will be an open-world title with multiplayer elements, and the game features Mads Mikkelsen as well as Reedus, along with Kojima’s friend Guillermo del Toro providing his likeness for one of the game’s characters.

According to Kojima, Death Stranding’s title refers to the term “cetacean stranding,” or when a dolphin or whale strands themselves on a beach, leading to their death. It remains unclear why the game is named after the phenomenon, although fans expect more information to be revealed as the game’s release comes closer.

Death Stranding’s release date remains unknown.
