Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a four-year-old game, having released on Nintendo’s Wii U console back in 2014.
It didn’t truly get the attention it deserved, despite being an engaging new entry in the Donkey Kong Country series. Combining a new storyline and icy new challenges with a narrative that brought frozen tundras to the normally verdant jungle, it was a treat for fans both new and old.Â
If the Wii U release passed you by, don’t fret, because it’s setting down on Nintendo Switch in May. There’s a brand new trailer showing off exactly what you can expect from the upcoming port, including a bit of story to keep you occupied until release.Â
This chilled-out adventure finds Donkey Kong and friends squaring off against snow-loving pirates who end up harassing the crew during a vicious snowstorm. DK and friends have to band together to push back the pirates once and for all. You get to see a bit of this being established in the new trailer, but the meat of the video is no doubt the gameplay footage. Cranky Kong’s cane hopping and other allies’ jet boosts steal the show, but what’s really great is just how good the game looks now that it’s made its way to Switch.Â
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is available to play this weekend at PAX East in Boston via Nintendo’s booth, so if you’re out there checking out what the show has to offer, you can get your paws on this game and give it a whirl. After that? Well, you’ll have to wait until May 4 to play the rest of it.
