The trailer showed off some giant wormlike monsters and a cavalcade of other demons—and it picks up from where the previous Doom game left off. If you remember, it ended with something of a betrayal, though we won’t ruin that for you if you haven’t enjoyed the game yet.Â
We’ve been waiting some time for a proper sequel to Doom, and it’s hard to believe it’s finally here. Unfortunately, we don’t know very much about Doom Eternal at this point, but that should all change soon.Â
The 2016 revival of Doom was an excellent game, both critically praised and loved by consumers as well. It took the classic mechanics from the beloved shooter and elevated them with a fantastic new adventure and storyline—it also received a stream of considerable acclaim on release. It’s not clear just yet how long after Doom that Doom Eternal is set, but hopefully we’ll find out more about that as the year wears on.

There’s no concrete release date for Doom Eternal just yet, but it’ll be shown off during QuakeCon 2018, which begins on Aug. 9 and runs until Aug. 12. You’ll want to make sure you’re in attendance if you’re thirsty for more details on this venerable franchise, especially if you’re in the market for plenty of gibbing. That’s what Doom’s about, after all.
