Niantic is hosting a new Pokemon Go event from May 1 to 14 that will boost the chances of finding fighting-type Pokémon in-game.

Hard-to-find Pokemon such as Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Hitmantop will be more readily available around the world as trainers look to complete their Pokédexs. Some of these Pokémon were once only available in Eggs, making them extremely hard to come by.

To tie in with the event’s theme, Niantic will be boosting the amount of XP players get for taking part in Gym Battles and Raid Battles. Raid Battles will also always guarantee a person at least 3,000 Stardust, the in-game item needed to boost a Pokémon’s combat-level after a successful bout.

The XP boost offers trainers a great way to level up fast in-game. If a player uses a Lucky Egg item before fighting in a Legendary Raid, for example, they will net at least 40,000 XP overall.

This XP boost will be well received by those still trying to capture the Legendary Pokémon Mew in Pokémon Go’s new mission system. One of the requirements to get Mew is to be level 25, which requires 710,000 XP overall.

The event follows the end of the Earth Day festivities which increased the chances of finding a Rock, Ground, or Water-type Pokémon. The previous event also gave trainers the chance to capture a Shiny Wailmer, which is now no longer available.
