The upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake has fans positively beside themselves with anticipation.
The latest update on the reboot of the RPG classic is based on a couple of job listings found and translated by Gematsu. Alongside the postings are a missive from Square Enix on the importance of the remake, as well as what it means for Final Fantasy fans and, well, the world. The team is gunning to make a product that’s even better than the original, or so they say.
“After 20 years, the staff behind the original Final Fantasy VII, who are top-rankers in the industry even now, are reuniting. A project to create “a title that surpasses the original” is starting full-scale,” the listing reads. “Take on the even more difficult challenge of creating a new title, in a certain sense, alongside top-level creators. It is a job that will naturally impact growth as a creator, as well the world.”
The listing is seeking a Battle Planner and a Level Planner to join the crew, each role with its own specific list of duties to fulfill. The Battle Planner will be tasked with helping to create a brand new battle system that will combine “commands and actions,,” as well as helping to brainstorm enemies and bosses and setting parameters of environments according to how much players have grown throughout the game. The Level Planner, on the other hand, will create workflows for creating locations in-game and everything that goes along with that.
So if you were hoping that the Final Fantasy VII Remake was anywhere close to coming out, keep in mind that the studio is still hiring, and it’s going to be quite a while before anything final comes. If the game is looking to exceed the lofty expectations set by the original and indeed “surpass” it, there will likely be additional hires happening in the future. The project’s future is murky in terms of what’s been accomplished thus far and what hasn’t, but as long as it’s coming to fruition, fans will likely wait as long as humanly possible to see what comes of this massive undertaking.
