Indeed, Square Enix is reportedly going to reveal a Final Fantasy VIII Remaster at its showcase. It is worth noting that Final Fantasy VIII is the sole Final Fantasy game which is not playable on modern platform since the publisher had lost the original source code of the title.
Over the last few hours, Twitter user @Sabi has leaked most of the content of the Xbox E3 2019 media briefing and the Bethesda press conference, nailing down all the announcements ahead of their official reveal (even the two new IP Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo, and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot).
This means that all the stuff Sabi has shared with the users along the way should turn true sooner rather than later at E3 2019, and this includes an interesting if the unexpected piece of news that should be dropped during the Square Enix showcase later today.

This, together with the fact that the game is being labeled a Remaster, could mean that we could not be getting a proper remake in the vein of Final Fantasy VII Remake, but just an upscale or support for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch alongside mobile in the short future (or even instantly).
With Final Fantasy VII Remake releasing on March 3, 2020, and seemingly ditching its episodic nature, a remake isn’t something I would rule out this easy, also because, again, the source code of the original title has been lost and could be even easier to remake it instead of remastering it.
We’ll see later today if this leak turns true, I guess!
