Square Enix and Acquire’s upcoming Nintendo Switch role-playing game Octopath Traveler will feature at least 12 roles, instead of the eight suggested by the title, with four secret jobs revealed via Nintendo France.
Producer Masashi Takahashi and composer Yasunori Nishiki took the stage at Japan Expo 2018 in France to discuss four “secret jobs” that will be available to players: the Augur, Enchanter, Rune Lord, and Warlord.Â
The game’s staff didn’t elaborate on what each job’s abilities would include. It’s intriguing that this announcement would be made so close to the game’s release, as it debuts on Nintendo Switch with a worldwide release on July 13.Â
Octopath Traveler is an open-world RPG that features a retro-inspired aesthetic, with 16-bit character sprites and high-definition pixel effects combined with traditionally illustrated backgrounds. Players take on the role different characters, akin to the classic RPG series SaGa Frontier, and begin their various adventures at different parts of the game’s world.Â
Each character also has a special skill known as a Path Ability that lets them pull off useful tricks such as stealing items or working their way through conversations more effectively.Â
The game is currently available to try now on Nintendo Switch with the Octopath Traveler Prologue demo. You can then carry over your save data to the retail release if you decide to purchase it. Octopath Traveler comes out on July 13.
