How many times while reading Harry Potter books or watching the films did you secretly hope to see an owl bring you a Hogwarts acceptance letter of your own? Be honest, there’s no one judging you here. If the answer is over 10 times or more, or you just consider yourself a rabid Harry Potter fan, you’ll definitely want to carve out some time for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, the mobile RPG for iOS and Android arriving this spring from Jam City.
We’ve gotten our first decent look at the game thanks to a new teaser, which shows off exactly what you can expect from your virtual life Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Yes, you’ll take part in the Sorting Hat ceremony so you can figure out which house you want to be in, and yes, you’ll attend classes to refine your spellcasting and other magical skills.
The spells are some of the most fun the app looks to provide, especially as you’ll be able to use them unlock secrets throughout the game, but the professors and students you can interact with seem like a pretty big draw as well. Magical fights are going to be a blast, it seems, at least from the trailer.
The game is actually set to take place ahead of Harry Potter’s arrival at Hogwarts, so you won’t be seeing much of the familiar characters from the series beyond professors and whatnot, but this is a game meant to focus on your personal experiences anyway, so that’s probably for the best.
If you want to check out Hogwarts for yourself, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is up for pre-registration via Google Play for Android users now, so you can note your interest before the game is out. It’s coming to iOS as well, but there’s no concrete release date just yet. It should be due out this year.
