Death Stranding‘s latest trailer is upon us, and we finally get to learn more details about the story and the gameplay of this much anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive. Among the most interesting things, we can find a full reveal of the cast which is going to play Death Stranding as an interactive movie of sorts.
We already knew that the game would be featuring a Hollywood stars-filled cast, but this time around we’re revealed two new characters and names, and purposes, for all the ones which had already been revealed but never spoken about.
Here’s the full list, then we get to see the new entries in detail:
- Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus as Sam
- James Bond actors Lea Seydoux and Mads Mikkelsen as Fragile and Cliff, respectively
- The Leftovers actress Margaret Qualley plays Mama
- The Last of Us actor Troy Baker portrays Higgs
- The Bionic Woman actress Lindsay Wagner plays Amelie
- Guillermo del Toro plays Deadman
- Nicolas Winding Refn is Heartman
- Tommie Earl Jenkins as Die-Hardman
While the names for those characters are all brand new except Sam’s, we learn about the existence of two of them which will be a part of the ‘roster’: Mama and Heartman. Mama is one of the members of Bridges, the main organization in Death Stranding which Sam works for, and she has in common with him the fact that she wears a handcuff. On top of that, she’s gorgeous, but perhaps you noticed that on your own.
Secondly, there’s Heartman, which reveals brand new cooperation with Nicolas Winding Refn; Refn is the movie director behind The Neon Demon and Drive with Ryan Gosling and the man who put Mads Mikkelsen and Hideo Kojima in touch. Kojima calls him his “bestie,” which perhaps Geoff Keighley won’t be happy to hear.
Heartman also wears a handcuff and does some sort of behind the scene work similarly as you would do with a puppet, or in Matrix. Just sat over there moving the strands he watches upon in a screen. Interestingly, Kojima says he just did the facial and performance capture, same as Guillermo del Toro so that we won’t hear his voice in the game. Fun enough, as we’ve already reported, Kojima will have a cameo in Refn’s upcoming Amazon Prime Video tv show called Too Old To Die Young.
Death Stranding finally releases on November 8, 2019. Could you believe that?

I asked my bestie, Nicolas, to be “HEARTMAN” in DS as special guest. We 3D scanned his head, body, and facial expressions to make his 3D model, but his acting and voice are done by a different performer, same as with Guillermo. ?????☔️ pic.twitter.com/wOGt0LfX89
