This “Leaked” Left 4 Dead 3 Trailer Is Almost Certainly Fake, But It Sure Looks Pretty

A supposedly “leaked” Left 4 Dead 3 trailer has appeared online. It is almost certainly a fake, but it is fun to pretend!

A leaked trailer for Left 4 Dead 3 has arrived on Youtube. While it is almost certainly a fake, it is very well done, and it is worth seeing just for the effort that someone put into it.

While the thought of a new Left 4 Dead game is something that we could all get behind, the reality of the situation is that it is unlikely to happen. First up, all the clues that this isn’t a real trailer. The most glaring is the placement of an actual brand of cereal in the trailer. Yes, the humor of a cereal called Life in a trailer for a game about zombies pretty much works, but the idea of Valve doing a deal with a cereal company to make that happen is quite low.

Secondly, the developers of the Left 4 Dead games have moved on to other things. That thing? A game called Back 4 Blood which is being touted as the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead. It seems reasonably unlikely that a third installment of the series could happen without somebody at Turtle Rock Studios finding out, and there is little reason to believe they would try to go head to head with their creation if they could help it. Logic dictates that insider information is that Left 4 Dead is, well, dead, so Turtle Rock is happy to do their new take on the coop zombie smasher that they created.

Finally, all we need to do is the point at Valves recent history with game development, which is pretty minimal outside of maintaining things like Dota 2 and CS: GO. The last game they gave us was Artifact, and you have to wonder if you want Valve doing much game development before they sit down and have a good think about what they did with that one.

Now, I am happy to be wrong. I would be delighted to be wrong, and for this to be a real leak, and for the game to be announced at E3, and all the other happy, fuzzy things that might happen. I don’t think I am.
